ABOUT US …
Priest-in-Charge
Rev. Linzi Stahlecker
In September of 2024, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Atascadero, was thrilled to welcome our new Priest-in-Charge, the Rev. Linzi Stahlecker.
Linzi was born and raised in London, England and moved to the United States in 2001. She was an outspoken atheist for most of her adult life, but came back to the church after a life-altering conversion experience!
For the past 23 years, Linzi lived in Seattle, WA with her spouse, Troy, and their three children. She went to seminary there, at the School of Theology and Ministry at Seattle University, and did her Clinical Pastoral Education at Harborview Medical Center. Before moving to San Luis Obispo, Linzi served as Cathedral Canon and Associate to the Rector at Saint Mark’s Cathedral, Seattle.
Linzi says “I truly believe that our call into faith is a call into fullness of life, and into deepening awareness of what it is to be free. As Church, we’re invited to cultivate our relationship with God and one another by committing to a life of ongoing transformation in Christ, by learning how to love and trust, through friendship and service, sacrament, creativity, liturgy and prayer.
Life in Christ is a life of love made visible in our welcome, connection, inclusion, and our striving for justice – and church is where we practice.
Come practice with us. I look forward to meeting you!”
Who We Are
St. Luke’s Atascadero is a community where love is expressed and experienced through generous hospitality, joyful and musical worship, service and mission, generous stewardship, and spiritual growth for members of all ages.
Parish Life and Pastoral Care
In the interval between permanent rectors, the congregation of St. Luke’s grew into a strong and active body of leaders. We found many alternative ways to care and support the members of the congregation.
At St. Luke’s, prayer is very important. Members of Daughters of the King lead the Tuesday and Thursday Evening Prayer services. They also collect and disseminate prayer requests to the membership. The Caring Parish Ministry group is charged with making monthly check-in phone calls to each member. Rev. Linzi provides pastoral support when needed and we enjoy monthly visits with two supply priests, Rev. Karen Siegfriedt and Rev. Richard Rollefson.
Our History
In 1950 a small group of women from Atascadero decided they would like to begin their own mission. The mission of St. Luke the Evangelist was founded April 1, 1951. The women decided on the name because Luke was a physician and they wanted the church to be based on the principles of healing and evangelism. More:
Our Patron Saint
St. Luke the Evangelist
Luke the Evangelist was a Gentile, a physician, and one of Paul’s fellow missionaries in the early spread of Christianity through the Roman world. He has been identified as the writer of both the Gospel which bears his name, and its sequel, the Acts of the Apostles. More:
Outreach
Service is a natural result of spiritual grounding and growth. St. Luke’s has a strong commitment to outreach and supports the greater community by cooking for the homeless shelter, provisioning apartments for medically fragile people, making quilts to be sent to disaster areas world-wide, and ringing bells for the Salvation Army. We also host several fundraisers throughout the year, with the proceeds designated to a selected charitable organization.
